Mental health problems
Focusses on the link between cannabis misuse and mental health disorders. Includes stimulating PowerPoint to help students create a display. Peer marking and plenary Q & A also included.

In this lesson students understand the social and economic costs of substance abuse for individuals and society.
The role of the media
The role of the media is studied in this lesson, regarding the way in which psychological illness and substance abuse is portrayed in the media. Involves role-play exercise.
Cannabis & Mental Health Lesson Plans
By learning about the costs of cannabis on the individual, their family and the wider society, and making them aware of risks involved, students will think twice about experimenting with cannabis.
In this series of 4 lessons, students will examine the issues surrounding cannabis use. This includes mental health problems, addiction and the social and economical implications on individuals and society.
Lesson 1 – Cannabis & Mental Health
In lesson 1, students recap any existing knowledge on the subject of cannabis and a series of activities and worksheets introduce some of the health issues surrounding its use.
Lesson 2 – Short Term Consequences
Students look deeper into this topic, looking at a case study, completing a worksheet and studying some key facts.
Lesson 3 – Social Implications
In this exercise, the class now turn their attention to the economic and social implications of substance misuse. Using images as prompts, they must identify the issues and costs associated with each.
Lesson 4 – The Role of the Media
In the final lesson in this series, we study the impact that the media can make on our perceptions about drug use. This lesson involves a research and role play exercise.
