More About PSHE Alcohol Lesson Plans

These teaching resources will help students understand the health triangle concept in relation to alcohol, and have knowledge of the physical, mental and social consequences of alcohol abuse.

Lesson 1 – Why Study Alcohol?

This lesson begins with a teacher led discussion, followed by student and group activities to establish the current level of knowledge about the subject of alcohol. This is reviews in class discussion.

Lesson 2 – Short Term Consequences

Students take part in an exercise which demonstrates the different consequences of alcohol abuse. This is a physical activity, so a little preparation work is required before class. The lesson is summarised with a short ‘fact of fiction’ exercise.

Lesson 3 – Long Term Consequences

In lesson 3, students complete and exercise that highlight some of the health issues associated with the long term effects of alcohol. A group activity enables the level of understanding to be assessed.

Lesson 4 – Alcohol and Mental Health

A range of activities that explore the different types of health issues that are associated with drinking and how this can affect friends and family.

Lesson 5 –Binge Drinking

A range of teacher led discussions, individual activities and group work that discuss the issues of binge drinking.

Lesson 6 – Final Session

In this final module, all the previous learning is pulled together in a group activity.
