More about the Critical Consumers Teaching Resources
In this series of PSHE lesson plans, we discuss the impact of buying products in relation to ethical production, fair-trade and environmental affects.
Lesson 1 – Consumer Choices
In the first lesson, students uncover the history of some of today’s favorite brands, looking particularly at the business model and ethical background.
Lesson 2 – Buy Local or Buy Global?
The subject of ‘food miles’ is familiar, so in this lesson activity, they must evaluate the agreements for and against buying products from different countries.
Lesson 3 – Advertising and ethics
In this lesson, students will look at advertising and ethics, by looking at cigarette adverts through history. They will then devise their own advertising campaign for a product with and without advertising restrictions.
Lesson 4 – Topic Review
The final session in this teaching resource is broken down into 3 activities. There is an initial teacher led discussion and presentation, followed by 2 group activities which evaluate certain products and any issues that may arise in providing them to the consumer.
