Children and work through history
Using a mixture of images, poetry and reportage, students are introduced to the place of children in work in history.

Thinking About Work – KS3 Activities for Form Time
At key stage 3, some students will already be working part time and others may be thing about doing so. In this series of 3 lessons, pupils will find out about the working conditions of children in the past, learn about the type of work they are allowed to do and understand about the minimum wage.
Activity 1 – Children and Work Through History
In the first activity, students look at evidence about the work that children had to carry out in the past. They must evaluate the information and answer a series of questions.
Activity 2 – Job Adverts
The aim of this activity is to first learn about the legal issues surrounding young people and work, and then create an advert that will appeal to young people whilst following the legal requirements.
Activity 3 – The National Minimum Wage
This activity takes the form of a class quiz which covers a number of wage related questions. As a result, students will understand more about the minimum wage and how it will affect them.
