Defining prejudice, different sorts of prejudice
After defining what prejudice is, students examine different sorts of prejudice.
Video clips about prejudice
Students watch clips from comedy shows that are about different prejudices. Do these reinforce prejudice or undermine it?
Roleplay prejudice
Using role play scenarios, students explore how prejudice affects individuals negatively.
Prejudice Tutor Time Teaching Resources
This series of lessons demonstrates that prejudice can take many forms. Students will learn the difference between prejudice and discrimination and think about the reasons why it should be challenged.
Activity 1 – Defining Prejudice
In the first lesson on this subject, students learn the definition of prejudice and, working in pairs, create a list of different types of prejudices.
Activity 2 – Video Clips
Students have the opportunity to look as the way in which prejudice is tackled in the media. As a class they must discuss the scenes and the purposes they serve. The topic of discrimination is introduced.
Activity 3 – Challenging Prejudice
Working in groups of 4 or 5, students look at examples of how prejudice has been used to sell products, before creating posters to challenge the prejudices and discrimination presented in a series of case studies.
Activity 4 – Role Play
The last exercise in this module is a role play activity that will demonstrate the knowledge learned throughout the previous lessons. Students are given a series of scenarios and must consider the complications that may arise due to prejudice.
