Economic Ideas Activities

Deliver financial education to key stage 3 and 4 students with this series of 7 activities. Each lesson looks at a specific topic so they can be tackled individually in form periods or tutor time.

Activity 1 – Trade

In the first session, students learn about the history of trade and its’ benefits. Students work in groups to trade with each other.

Activity 2 – The History of Money

Following on from the trader activity, pupils see how currency has developed over time. They then develop their own idea for a new coin for the UK.

Activity 3 – Pay and Tax

In this activity, students will learn more about money, taxes and how tax will affect what they earn when they leave school, college or university.

Activity 4 – Income Tax

Students are given the opportunity to learn about payslips, including learning about income tax, national insurance and tax codes.

Activity 5 – Import and Export

In this activity, we introduce the concept of import and export. Students study a news report and answer questions relating to it.

Activity 6 – The History of Trade?

Still with a focus on import and export, this lesson looks at global trade. Students learn about the different countries that have been involved with trading to and from the UK.

Activity 7 – The Language of Money

In this summary activity, students learn about the meaning of money related sayings. They then complete the module by preparing their own money related proverb.
