Topic Aims
From the key stage 3 PSHE: Personal Well-being programme of study:
1.5 Diversity a. appreciating that, in our communities, there are similarities as well as differences between people of different race, religion, culture, ability or disability, gender, age or sexual orientation.
Learning Outcomes
Students learn about things they may have in common with different people.
Students understand that the things they have in common with people who may look or seem different to them are important.
Students have to use their imagination to empathise with others.
Introduction
Remind students of the previous activities in this module where they have examined diversity as a topic.
Show the class the PowerPoint presentation.
For each slide, ask them to write down 1 or 2 things that they may have in common with the person in the picture. Don’t spend too much time on this.
Ask them to think not just about appearance, but to consider feelings, experiences, emotions and personality.
