Introduction
What is democracy?
Write the word on the board and ask the class if they know what it means.
Differentiate by age or ability
For higher ability – push them to go into detail about the extract from the play. What does this tell us about how democracy originally worked? What elements are still present today?
For lower ability – ask the students to visualise or model the assembly. Where did the people stand or sit? Where did the officials stand? How could everyone hear what was going on?
