Topic Aims

Learning objective taken from key stage 3 and 4 programmes of study for Economic Well-being:

  • 1.2 Capability - d. becoming critical consumers of goods and services.

And from the Citizenship programme of study at key stage 3:

    1. Range and content - e. actions that individuals can take to influence decisions affecting communities and the environment.

Learning Outcomes

Students consider what advertising is and how it works.

Students work together to create their own adverts and to understand why we have restrictions on advertising certain products.

Students become more critical about advertising.

Differentiate by learning style

Students could design a TV or radio advert instead of a poster.

Introduction

Ask the students what they mean when they talk about advertising. Make sure they have a clear definition agreed before proceeding. Use the definition on slide 2 of the PowerPoint presentation to clarify.
