Topic Aims

  • To understand the need to manage risk in financial and career term

  • To take risks and learn from mistakes

Economic Understanding

  • To develop a better understanding of the economic and business environment

  • To gain a better understanding of the functions and uses of money

Learning Outcomes

To understand the implications of the credit crunch for individuals, communities and nations.

Young people have increased access to credit. They need to have an understanding of the wider implications of credit and lending, particularly in relation to changes to the economy.

Students are introduced to a thinking and analysis technique called “thinking hats”.

Differentiate by learning style

Use visual aids such as coloured paper to represent each thinking hat.

Introduction

Introduce the concept of the “Six Thinking Hats” to the group using the “Thinking hats” briefing sheet.

Split the students into groups or pairs and give each group or pair a copy of the briefing sheet. If you have time and resources, let them use coloured paper to signify each thinking hat to write on.
