Topic Aims
Learning objectives from the PSHE KS4 programme of study:
1.2 Healthy lifestyles: a. recognising that healthy lifestyles, and the well-being of self and others, depend on information and making responsible choices.
b. understanding that our physical, mental, sexual and emotional health affect our ability to lead fulfilling lives and that there is help and support available when they are threatened.
Learning Outcomes
Students gain knowledge of the social and economic costs of alcohol abuse.
Differentiate by learning style
Ask students to participate by reading aloud from the slides. This activity could be made more physical by pinning up the slides around the room, then getting groups to go from slide to slide, identifying all the answers. The group which finds all the correct answers in the shortest time wins a prize.
Introduction
In this session students will be learning about how alcohol abuse affects the economy and the health service. Ask the class if they can think of reasons why the government is trying to reduce the amount and change the way that people drink alcohol. What costs are there for us? Outline that there are costs relating to crime, health and loss of working days for businesses.
