Topic Aims

Learning objectives from the PSHE KS4 programme of study:

1.2 Healthy lifestyles: a. recognising that healthy lifestyles, and the well-being of self and others, depend on information and making responsible choices.

b. understanding that our physical, mental, sexual and emotional health affect our ability to lead fulfilling lives and that there is help and support available when they are threatened.

This session uses a variety of different learning styles.

Introduction

Read from the PowerPoint slides 2–3 outlining the basic facts relating to alcohol and mental illness.

Human Barometer exercise: have students moving between true/false positions in the classroom in relation to the questions on slides 4–11.

Highlight the citizenship angle of alcohol being a real social problem through the comments of Ed Balls, PowerPoint slide 12.
