Students complete an exercise looking at how people cope with change and uncertainty in the world of work.

Comparing the world of work in 1955 with today, students are encouraged to think about how the world of work may change in the future.

Using examples of groups who have changed the world of work in the past - including Luddites and Suffragettes.

Developing personal skills and attributes to help young people deal with change in their own careers.
Enterprise Teaching Resources - Uncertainty
There are many things in live that are certain and equally there are many that are uncertain. In these lessons, students consider certain and uncertain events and how this may affect them from a work perspective.
Lesson 1 – Certain and Uncertain Events
Lesson 1 introduces this concept and students consider the outcome of various scenarios and what factors may contribute to this.
Lesson 2 – Employment Uncertainty
This concept is now applied to the work environment. Students think about changes that are being experienced and how this might affect them.
Lesson 3 – How People Have Coped with Employment Uncertainty
Using government information, students review advice given and prepare a summary outlining the key points.
Lesson 4 – What Did the World of Work Look Like in 1955 in the UK
In this lesson, students reflect on the working environment in the past and consider how this has changed in relation to the current market.
Lesson 5 – Influences on Changes in the World of Work
Using case studies, students look at events that have caused changed to the world of work. Working in groups, they identify the outcomes of these changes.
Lesson 6 – What Skills do You Need to be Able to Cope With Change
Students now reflect on their own skills and identify if those required to be able to cope with change including personal, transferable and technical skills.
