Images from the Media – 3 Form Time Activities

We are constantly presented with images in the media, ie photo's in newspapers or videos via the TV news and social media, so in this series of 3 short activities for citizenship, students look at the different ways images can be misinterpreted if not correctly presented.

Activity 1 – A Photo Never Lies

Using some real life examples, students review a series of photographic images from the media and describe their interpretations. The real story behind the image is revealed – did the photo represent the truth?

Activity 2 – Captions

In this activity, students learn the importance of using an appropriate caption to communicate the correct message in an image or photograph.

Activity 3 – Scenarios

Students must now demonstrate their level of understanding by preparing appropriate images for a series of different scenarios. As a class, the decisions made by the students in this exercise are discussed.
