More About Gap Year Teaching Resources

Another option available to some students will be a gap year. There are significant career benefits that can be gained from a structured year out of education which can be in the UK or abroad. The various opportunities are introduced in these lessons.

Lesson 1 – What is a Gap Year?

Using case studies, pupils answer a series of related questions and reflect upon whether the case studies’ year out would help them find a job or get onto their university course.

Lesson 2 –What Would Suit You?

Some students may not think that a gap year is suited to them. In this activity, pupils explore their motivations and highlight possible careers areas that may suit them.

Lesson 3 – When Can I Take a Gap Year?

This activity sees the students rotate around a series of pre-prepared workstations each outlining a different scenario relating to careers, education and gap years. Students must present their findings and develop a SWOT analysis.

Lesson 4 – How Can I Take a Gap Year?

In the final lesson in this module, students must consider the cost of a gap year. Working in groups they need to plan and develop ways to raise funds in order to afford a gap year.
