Here is an example - taken from the Abusive Relationships assembly
PowerPoint slide 1: (On student entry to hall. There is a link on this slide to the Jennifer Hudson song “Spotlight” which is relevant for this topic if you have internet access and speakers. Allow a minute for the track to begin. Alternatively you could play the song on a CD.) Teacher: “The Jennifer Hudson song “Spotlight” is about a relationship where one person is controlling and abusing the other. This morning’s assembly will be on the topic of abusive relationships, in the light of a recent survey. This survey made some disturbing discoveries.
PowerPoint slide 2: Teacher: “The NSPCC surveyed over 1000 young people across the UK aged 13 to 17, and asked them about their relationships. These are some of the key findings. (Read from slide or ask students to read from slide if appropriate). These statistics mean that some of you in our school will be involved in relationships that are abusive or violent. Obviously, as a school we do not tolerate bullying of any kind – even, or especially, if it is between young people who are involved in a relationship.”
