In order to research their career options properly, students need to understand the market, why it is useful to access information relating to it and where they can find the information.
Lesson 1 – What is the Local Labour Market
The object of this exercise is to establish what the students currently know about this topic. Working in small groups, they must investigate the local area using the internet, newspapers etc.
Lesson 2 – Finding Out About the Local Labour Market
In this lesson, students will be looking at official sources of information about this subject. They are given specific statistics to study and present back to the rest of the class.
Lesson 3 – Employment Sectors and the Local Labour Market
In this activity, look at statistical information from the point of view of individual industries and sectors. Working in pairs they must complete a questionnaire and carry out a role play exercise.
Lesson 4 – Your Local Labour Market
This is a review and demonstration activity. Students must compile their learning on this subject and prepare a visual demonstration either through presentation, display or other method.
