More About These Resources

A successful enrichment day provides a focal point in the school or college year that meets the needs of the school development plan. Key issues will be the teaching and learning styles involved and raising academic achievement. The enrichment day can develop and enrich the experiences of students in all areas of the curriculum, raise student levels of attainment in numeracy and literacy, and raise academic attainment at examination level.

Shortfalls of provision identified by Ofsted can be tackled partially through enrichment days. Most often this will include citizenship, work-related learning, enterprise education and careers education, as well as curriculum development within the school specialism.

To ensure your enrichment day is a success, you will need to do the following:

  • Create a clear project plan including dates and desired outcomes
  • Get the commitment of relevant colleagues and the senior management team
  • Check that resources such as space and materials are available
  • Check that the proposed date doesn't conflict with other timetable commitments
  • Make sure that you are confident that the format of the day is appropriate for the students involved
  • At all points focus on the end goal- meeting the desired learning outcomes
  • At the end of the day get feedback from the students, record it, and learn from it for next time.
