It is important for students to start practising communication skills and learning about body language now, so by the time they are doing their work placements or part time jobs when they are older, it will be second nature. Developing these skills will also help them to greet visitors to the school confidently, and improve their self-confidence in unfamiliar situations.
Key stage 3 is the start of their career planning process and preparation for the world of work and pupils are unlikely to have spent a great deal of time in a workplace environment. These activities are designed to be a quick and effective way of introducing students to the concept of professional skills.
Each activity takes around 20 minutes to complete. Roll two or three together to make a full lesson or use activities individually in form period time or as a fun lesson starter. If you used all 6 activities together you could use them for an off-timetable careers event.
